New Women and Children's Center: Six Months of Success

On December 9, 2013, Union Gospel Mission moved into a leased facility in Beaverton to launch the LifeChange Center for Women and their Children.  The Mission stepped out in faith, knowing that it was time to expand services for women with children.  When we moved into the building we didn't have adequate furnishings, we needed to start meal services for the women and kids, we needed a place for children and children's activities.

Churches and individuals stepped in. Rooms were furnished and painted, church groups came and helped with many volunteer projects, food was donated and we have a Children's Coordinator on staff creating a wonderful, healing environment for kids. Just days after we opened the Center, we were able to welcome children into the program to experience safety and healing with their moms. One of our residents, Melinda, who was in the program before we opened the new Center, was able to re-unite with her children. Melinda and her children are a family experiencing healing together.

Just a few weeks ago, we celebrated the LifeChange women completing levels in their recovery. Some are moving on to vocational training and jobs and others are moving up to new levels of recovery.  The women who come to LifeChange are escaping abuse, trauma, addiction and homelessness.  As they progress in a safe, healing environment we see women gain hope and strength to start a new life. It is something to celebrate!
