Rainy Operation Overcoat a Huge Success!

UGM

Many thanks to those who donated items, donated financially and volunteered for Operation Overcoat 2013! It was a very rainy Operation Overcoat this year, but that did not decrease the crowd.  Lines formed around the block in early morning of people eager to take part in the event. Union Gospel Mission blocked off the street on NW Third Avenue in front of the Mission and blocked a section of Couch Street between Third and Fourth Avenues.  On the street the Mission provided hamburgers, hot dogs, and homemade potato salad.  Guests could also enjoy sno-cones and cotton candy.

Popular clothing items included boots, jackets, socks and sleeping bags.  Overall, 5,091 items were given away and over 2,000 meals were served at a wonderful event! Check out the video for a re-cap of the day's events.
