Help Bring Thanksgiving to MORE People in Need

Thanksgiving is known as "Love Your Neighbor Day" at Union Gospel Mission.  We close off NW Third Avenue and set up a huge tent and serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal to those who are homeless and people in need.  We load up the plates with traditional Thanksgiving favorites: Turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, vegetables, and even pumpkin pie! We anticipate serving as many as 1,500 meals on Thanksgiving Day. This year we planning to stretch to serve even MORE people outside of our big event downtown.  Since 2009, Union Gospel Mission has seen a dramatic increase in demand for food boxes. Many people who not homeless, but are experiencing long term unemployment, disability or just struggling to hang on to their home need assistance with food.  Last Thanksgiving, we gave away 100 food boxes in just one day! We want to expand and bring Thanksgiving to more people in need and perhaps do as many as 300 more food boxes!

We need your help to make this possible! Can you donate canned and boxed foods and a $25 gift card to a grocery store to help provide food boxes? Consider how you can bring a Thanksgiving meal to family in need this year.  Donate online or drop off canned and boxed foods at 3 NW Third Avenue in Portland, or give us a call at 503-274-4483 to find out more.
