A Simple Shower

A simple shower. That may not seem like much but for Michael who was struggling with addiction and living on the streets, a shower helped him get into recovery and a new life. Here is his story. 

“I was so grateful to shower and have clean clothes, I felt like a new man,” Michael explained. UGM offers mobile showers to those living on the streets. This is a means to connect with people and let them know they are loved and help is available. 

After getting a shower Michael decided to come to the mission for help. UGM’s outreach coordinator worked closely with him to create a recovery plan, help him get into a safe shelter, and obtain his birth certificate and driver’s license.  

As part of his recovery plan, Michael was required to participate in community service. He decided to spend those hours volunteering at Union Gospel Mission. He said, “It feels great to give back to the place that helped me. I can feel God’s presence here.”

Today, Michael sees God working in his life, “I’m so thankful for what the Union Gospel Mission has done in my life today. I know things are going to get better and more doors will open if I stay close to God Almighty.”
