150 Christmas Food Boxes Distributed
On Monday, December 22, Union Gospel Mission distributed 150 Christmas Food boxes to people in need. The boxes contained canned and boxed foods, dinner rolls or bread. Everyone who received a food box also received a ham.
The food boxes were distributed at noon, and people began lining up around the block shortly after 11:00 am.
"There were lots of people in need of the food boxes. We gave away all of the boxes in about an hour and a half," said David Willis, homeless services coordinator.
While Union Gospel Mission is well known for the meals provided to the homeless, the Mission also provides a substantial amount of help for those who have housing, but are struggling to put food on the table. Union Gospel Mission provides 40 or more food boxes every week. Boxes are distributed every Friday. In addition to non-perishable items, Union Gospel Mission often provides frozen meat as well.
In 2014, Union Gospel Mission is on track to distribute over 2,800 food boxes. [gap size="100px"] [share facebook="true" twitter="true" google_plus="true" linkedin="true" pinterest="true"]
