You can make a difference! Union Gospel Mission seeks to engage your talents and gifts in a meaningful volunteer experience that meets the needs of the homeless and addicted. Opportunities to serve include serving meals, snacks or coffee for the homeless and needy, sharing God’s Word, teaching, working at the Thrift Store, office support, organizing a clothing or food drive, childcare at our women’s center, and many more! The first step to volunteering is to attend the “Volunteer Encounter.”
WHAT IS THE VOLUNTEER ENCOUNTER?
This is an orientation class for prospective volunteers. Attending the Volunteer Encounter will educate, inspire and broaden your horizons about UGM’s Mission and opportunities to serve. Please register for the next Volunteer Encounter below.
Please note that Special Events volunteers are not required to attend an orientation. See below for information on volunteering for a Special Event.
Upon attending the Volunteer Encounter, prospective volunteers will receive a Volunteer Application. Questions or concerns regarding the Volunteer Encounter? Contact CJ Entringer at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 503.274.4483.
If you have a group from your business, church, or school looking for a way to volunteer together, we have opportunities for you, too. Groups can serve on a one-time or ongoing basis, engaging in a Special Event or in the day-to-day operations of UGM.
If you are the leader of a group that would like to be involved on an ongoing basis, the first step is for the group leader(s) to attend the “Volunteer Encounter” (RSVP above). For a one-time or short-term group opportunity, we do not require the group leader(s) to attend the “Volunteer Encounter.” Contact Bernadette Gonzales, Volunteer Coordinator, at
email@example.com or 503-274-4483 to inquire about one-time or short-term group opportunities.

An urban immersion is a short-term mission trip that provides practical, hands-on experience to groups who have the desire to work alongside churches and organizations ministering to people in the city who are in need of hope, help, and the gospel.
If you are the leader of a church group, or college ministry and are interested in bringing a group of young adults to the city for an urban immersion, the Union Gospel Mission will partner with you by providing unique serving opportunities, learning and a curriculum outline for your use, a room for lessons, and coordinating support from our staff.
Kaleo Missions, who partners with Union Gospel Mission, offers a fully coordinated short term missions experience.
Union Gospel Mission works together with like-minded organizations. Union Gospel Mission seeks to work alongside transformational, relational, and collaborative organizations with which we can fulfill our mission to better love our neighbor.
If you’re interested in partnerships, please contact email@example.com
Our current partners include:
Kaleo Missions creates short-term missions experiences for the purpose of encountering Christ, transforming lives, empowering ministry, and inspiring the Church. Union Gospel Mission partners with Kaleo Missions by offering unique service opportunities with intentional, relational exposure to urban issues such as poverty, addiction, and homelessness.
HOTEL Ministry (Healing Others Through Evangelistic Love) exists to share Christ’s love with residents in Portland’s low-income hotels downtown. The Union Gospel Mission encourages churches to “adopt” a low-income hotel in Portland through HOTEL Ministry.
Called To Rescue is a non-profit, faith neutral, worldwide organization dedicated to the rescuing of minor children from sex trafficking, violence, and abuse. We’ve formed a partnership with Called to Rescue, building a communication pathway using our strategic location in Old Town to both recognize and rescue victims of trafficking.
