Volunteers are the heart of Union Gospel Mission and without you, our reach would be limited. UGM seeks to engage you or your group in a meaningful volunteer experience that meets the needs of houseless and hurting people. Opportunities abound for you to make a difference!

Volunteer Opportunities

UGM has four main areas where volunteers can get involved.  Volunteer placement is not guaranteed as it is subject to availability in these areas.  

Portland - Downtown Homeless Services, Search+Rescue, Shower Trailer, Men’s LifeChange, Overnight Shelter, Administration.

Beaverton - LifeChange for Women and Their Children, Children’s Activity Center, Learning & Education Center, Food Services, Yard Work, Administration.

Tigard - Sorting and organizing donations, stocking of shelves/racks, donation management/receiving.

Holidays & Special Events - Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Operation Overcoat, Fundraising Events.

VOLUNTEER FOR A SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITY OR ON AN ONGOING BASIS 

Short-Term Opportunities – for individuals or groups interested in volunteering once, seasonally (e.g., summer mission trips or an office serve week), on holidays or for special events.   

Ongoing Opportunities – for individuals or groups interested in volunteering regularly on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.   

Groups - Only one individual representing your group needs to create a volunteer account.  All other group members will need to fill out and submit a Group Participant Waiver. We are currently taking groups of up to 10-20 people.

FAQ

How do I sign up for holidays and special events?

Create a ugmportland.volunteerhub.com account by clicking the "New Volunteer" button (Individuals and group leaders only). Once your application has been processed you will be given access to sign up for events.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Depending on the volunteer opportunity we take volunteers as young as 10 years old. Most opportunities require a volunteer to be at least 18 years old.
