Ana's Journey of Transformation

Our Search + Rescue team works to connect with those experiencing homelessness, offering support and a path forward. Today, we share a story that beautifully illustrates the lasting impact they can have.
Ana Lopez found herself facing homelessness in Portland from 2017-2019. Lost and battling addiction, she and her partner encountered our Search and Rescue team in Delta Park. The team offered not just a helping hand, but genuine care and understanding.

"They never judged us," Ana recalls. "They kept coming back, showing us love. We'd come for food and chapel, and folks like Noah, Luis, Curtis, and others...they always welcomed us with open arms." This unwavering compassion became a beacon of hope for Ana. Even during difficult times, the consistent support from the Search and Rescue team planted a seed of possibility.

Years later, living in Salem and sober since March 2021, Ana reflects on the turning point. "Search and Rescue coming every Thursday, offering help and treatment...it meant the world," she shares. "No one had offered detox before. When I was ready to get clean, I knew they could help."

Inspired by the love and support she received, Ana now works in outreach case management. "The Search + Rescue team showed me the importance of showing up for people," she says. "Now, I get to do the same for others who are struggling."

Ana's story is a testament to the power of human connection and the strength that lies within us all. It reminds us that even a small act of compassion can make a world of difference, guiding someone from a place of despair toward a life filled with purpose.

With your continued support, we can empower more individuals like Ana to break the cycle of homelessness and addiction. Thank you for providing hope for a brighter future.
