But where's the best place to start to do all of that? Meals.
Why? Because no one can change their life on an empty stomach.

It starts with a meal
A well-prepared, nourishing meal shows care and compassion by meeting immediate needs in a way that says, “You matter”.
Showing someone that they matter is the start to building a relationship.
In a relationship, we can connect people to the services they need most, like LifeChange, transitional housing and more.
Your Meal Could Change a Life Like Chris’
While Chris was growing up, his classmates’ families bonded over shared meals at the dinner table and holiday traditions. Chris’s family bonded by doing meth.
“It’s just something we did,” he says.
With that kind of upbringing, it’s sad but not too surprising that Chris ended up addicted and in prison. When he got out, he had trouble finding a job and couldn’t afford rent. So he lived in a tent, constantly worrying how he was going to get food.
One day, our Search+Rescue team showed up. And because of friends like you, Chris was given a meal.
“It really did change my outlook and help me realize there are people out there that care,” he says. “When I found out that Union Gospel Mission does Thanksgiving and Christmas, we would come here and eat.”
Chris kept coming back. He got healthier and saw men who used to be on the streets were living changed lives. He decided to he wanted that for himself and joined our LifeChange program.
Today, Chris is a year and a half sober, off the streets, and building a relationship with Jesus.
“This place is a godsend . . . it saved my life, there is no other way to say that,” Chris says.
Chris’s life changed because someone was willing to provide food and show him compassion when he needed it most. Will you do that for someone else this year-end?

Why It Works
Jesus had a lot to say about sharing meals during His ministry. As followers of Him, we know meals are the single best way to build relationships and show people that you care.
Relationships show you care, and lead to trust. And it’s only when someone trusts you that you can begin helping them in the ways that they need the most.
